The Immortal – A Fulldome Audio-Visual Composition

“…there is not a face that is not on the verge of dissolving like a face in a dream.”

-Jorge Luis Borges

Referencing Jorge Luis Borges’ short story in title, my film, ‘The Immortal’, is an experimental, audio-visual composition tailored specifically for a fulldome (planetarium) screen. Drawing upon themes found in Borges’ work on immortality and in many of Polish Artist – Zdzisław Beksiński’s paintings, the piece seeks to frame and explore the body as both a prison and impetus to narratively experience the world.

Final Documentation – “I light this candle in a transaction”

Project Description

“I light this candle in a transaction” is an interactive installation that explores ideas surrounding the mechanization of religious and monetary transactions. Partially inspired by Douglas Adams’ “Electric Monk”, a labour-saving device found in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, “I light a candle in this transaction” takes the form of a credit card-operated, electric votive candle stand that automatically generates and prints personal prayers for each user. At its core, the piece tries to identify what ways our modern consumerist society can expedite a spiritual process and where it fails altogether.

Processing is used to analyze and generate the credit card and prayer information while the physical parts are run via an Arduino Mega.

Dancer Collaboration – Time Remapping

A short piece I did with dancer, Annie Chang, exploring multiple pathways and possibilities of form that arise when moving between two simple shapes.

Final Project: (un)stable

The following is documentation for my dxarts 470 final project, “(un)stable”. In an earlier post I described my motivations behind this piece in detail, so here will mainly just be pictures and video footage of the final product. I will also put up a link to the Pure Data code and apologize ahead of time for it’s messiness.

Some photos:

A video of it in action:

And finally, here is a link to the Pure Data code and Automator file (which connects to the real-time earthquake data)
